Why Fract

I built this for myself.

I was doing fractional consulting work with a couple of clients and kept losing small chunks of billable time. A quick email reply. A call between other things. Twenty minutes thinking through a client problem on a walk.

I wasn't going to open a spreadsheet for ten minutes of work. But I'm also too honest to just round up at the end of the month.

So I built something dead simple: tap when work happens, log it to the right client, bill it when you invoice. No timers. No setup. No account.

The first month I used it, I made a couple hundred dollars I would have otherwise lost. Not because I worked more — because I captured what I actually did.

Why "Fract"?

The name is short for fractional — the way a growing number of professionals work today. Not full-time for one company. Not freelancing on the side. Doing serious, skilled work across multiple client relationships, billing for their time, operating like a professional practice of one.

These people needed a tool built specifically for how they work. Not a scaled-down team product. Not a timer app that assumes you're at a desk. Something that fits in your pocket, works with one thumb, and captures the real texture of professional work — the fragments, the quick calls, the thinking time.

That's Fract.

Why 6 minutes?

Six minutes is 0.1 hours. Professional services firms have billed in this increment for fifty years because it's the right balance: granular enough to be honest, rounded enough to be practical.

Most fractional workers have never heard of it — they came from companies where someone else handled the billing. Fract introduces them to a professional standard that's been around for decades, in the simplest possible interface.

One tap. Six minutes. Move on with your work.

What Fract is (and isn't)

Fract is a time tracker. It's not an invoicing tool, a project manager, or a team dashboard. It does one thing: gives you an accurate record of where your professional time went, organized by client and project, ready for whatever billing system you use.

It's free. It requires no account. All your data stays on your phone — no cloud sync, no server, no developer looking at your client list.

It's built for one person doing serious work. That's it.

If you bill by the hour and you're losing time you should be capturing — Fract is for you.
